Problems

We Solve

The heart of our process and delivery is built around solving problems. The complexity and specifics of each community’s needs are unique, but with many facing similar challenges. Our extensive experience with communities enables us to understand these challenges and provide comprehensive solutions that are tailored to address the financial, operational and technical needs.

Problem: LACK OF STAFFING

Municipalities and educational facilities are struggling with ongoing turnover and the lack of skilled trade workers available today. This can be especially true with public works departments and facility staff. Technology advances, changing demographics, and new priorities for younger generations have combined to create a talent gap. Communities are left with unfilled job postings for extended periods of time. The lack of available talent leads to communities constantly searching for staff and utilization of outside contractors to service infrastructure.

Our Solution

Automation, digitization and integration of software systems are changing how departments complete their tasks, closing the gap of staffing issues. Operational insights are now available to teams rapidly, and across all levels, creating an efficiency in the management of processes and systems while improving quality, safety, and sustainability.

Fact: 60% of public works
technicians will find a new job
within 2 years of employment
at an entity.

Problem: Deferred Maintenance

Deferred maintenance can have serious consequences for community infrastructure. This can lead to a backlog of repairs that can be difficult and expensive to address, leading to safety issues and breakdowns that can cause significant disruptions in services.

When repairs and upgrades are postponed due to budgetary constraints, the costs associated with deferred maintenance continue to grow until maintenance is done. Over the life of that asset, those additional costs may total more than 15 times what would have been spent on the maintenance had it not been deferred.

Our Solution

Addressing deferred maintenance begins with rating the critical nature of the asset and the seriousness of each deficiency and then planning a series of smaller improvement measures to address the backlog or including the items into a larger project. Our programs are built to enable communities to not only fund the deferred maintenance but to protect them with a lifecycle plan.

Fact: Studies of organizations show
that on average, for every dollar "saved"
by deferring maintenance, there comes
a four dollar increase in
future capital renewal costs.

ProbleM: Infrastructure Needs

The American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) has released its 2021 Report Card for America’s Infrastructure. Compiled every four years, it comprehensively assessed 17 major infrastructure categories on a range of criteria such as capacity, condition, funding and public safety. They were then scored through a simple A to F school report card format. America’s infrastructure score climbed from D+ to a C-. The good news is that the American infrastructure has improved, with the country’s score climbing from a D+ in 2017 to a C- in 2021. It is the first time the U.S. has been out of the D range in two decades.

Our Solution

Our team prioritizes investments that reduce the cost of existing operations, combining infrastructure modernization and financial solutions to enable leadership to bring positive impact to the community in a short amount of time.

Fact: The Congressional Budget Office
estimates that every dollar spent
on infrastructure brings an
economic benefit of up to $2.20.

Problem: Lack of Funds

Smaller communities are struggling to pay for infrastructure projects with staggering needs that they can’t tackle without significant funding support. Today, cities with stagnant tax bases “can’t [keep up with infrastructure needs] without vastly increasing their property tax revenues. If older cities just keep jacking the property tax rate up, that creates a vicious downward cycle where more population leaves,” says Bill Fulton, director of the Kinder Institute for Urban Research at Rice University.

Our Solution

We consider a variety of revenue and funding sources to achieve equitable outcomes from infrastructure renewal programs. Increased revenues, utility and operational savings, and grants can provide the financial means to close the funding gap of needs for the built environment.

Fact: Only 2.4 percent American gross
domestic product is applied to infrastructure,
in comparison with 5 percent in the European
Union and 9 percent in China.

Problem: OUTDATED TECHNOLOGY

Many government entities are operating mission-critical systems with equipment that is approaching or has passed its end of supported life.

As equipment becomes outdated, it becomes less efficient, less productive and less secure.

Our Solution

New technologies allow for high-impact solutions that expand the options for communities looking to meet today’s challenges and make the most of infrastructure funding resources.

Fact: Texas Department of Information
Resources found that 61 percent
of systems being run were classified as
legacy — that is, obsolete or inefficient.

Problem: Infrastructure

USA cites that small cities and schools often face many of the same overwhelming, chronic, and costly infrastructure problems as the big entities. However, they lack the expertise, capacity, or resources to address these challenges. Large cities and schools have entire departments with dedicated budgets to tackle aging infrastructure and systematic upgrades.

Our Solution

Our team brings the knowledge, skills, and options to our customers,
empowering administrations to choose solutions that will work best in their community.

Fact: 90% of employees at smaller cities and schools report carrying out more than 2 job roles at time.
